Get: - 0.5c rice, dry
- 1 sweet onion
- 0.75lb ground beef or pork
- 0.5lb crimini mushrooms, sliced
- 3 eggs
- minced green onion to garnish
- salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder
- thyme for eggs
Do: - Make the rice per instructions, and chill for at least 1 hour
- Stir rice in with one beaten egg. Form into somewhat thin patties, place on plate, and chill for 30 minutes
- Mix pork or turkey with minced onion and spices in bowl, form into patties. Put a dimple in the middle! Set aside.
- Make Mushroom Gravy
- Fry the rice patties in neutral oil at 350F, at least 3 minutes per side on medium high, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Fry the meat patties to temperature, roughly 4 minutes per side depending on thickness.
- Fry eggs in butter while the meat is going, or in the same pan. Season with thyme, salt, pepper. Cook the top by pouring a shot glass of water onto the top and letting it boil to cook.
- Top with gravy and serve
Results: - Gravy was great. Egg was fine.Â
- I did a turkey patty with olive oil, salt, pepper, cayenne, chili flakes, and a bit of herb. good!
- Pork patty was kind of bland, I actually do not love the flavor of ground pork by itself. Needs something more, like sausage flavoring? Put mustard in it next time?
- Thinner patties means more golden crunch! No need to make them huge.
- Canola oil works, peanut oil did not work. It was definitely spoiled oil that one time.
