Get: - 1c short grain rice, dry
- 1tbsp rice vinegar
- 1tbsp sugar
- 0.5tbsp salt
- Fresh cucumber
- Nori sheets
- Wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce to garnish
Do: - sushi rice:
- rinse 2c rice
- boil the wet rice in equal parts water, then cover and steam on low heat for 15 minutes.
- let stand for 10 more minutes
- combine rice vinegar, sugar, salt in a bowl and microwave 30-40sec
- fold mixture into rice, cool mixture to room temperature
- maki:
- thinly slice cucumber
- lay out nori sheets on sushi mat, coat with ~0.5cm rice. leave 2cm edge uncovered for closing
- lay cucumber near edge of rice area, roll using mat
- slice with a sharp wet knife, wiping the blade with a moist towel after each slice
Results: - I made the rice too dry. Need to make sure to use lower heat and steam for at least the 15+10 minutes.
- Remember to lay out the nori in the right direction r.e. the perforations
